This innovative roof insulates the facility, extends the life of the roof by protecting it from sun exposure, and reduces total storm water runoff from the building. The Dakotah! Ice Center also has a green roof covered with natural vegetation. The arena's benches are constructed from 100% recycled plastic lumber, and the parking lot pavers are made from recycled tires and plastic containers. An innovative skylight system provides plenty of light by day, and the waste heat created by cooling the rink floor is captured and reused to heat the arena seats. The Dakotah! Ice Center was constructed in 2008 with a number of green building initiatives designed to make construction, operation, and maintenance as energy-efficient as possible. Dakotah! Ice Center is open to the public and available for open skate sessions, hockey and skating classes, and ice and conference room rentals. In addition to hosting community ice events, Dakotah! Ice Center is a leader in environmental sustainability, with a large green roof, solar panels, skylights, and a compressor and heat exchange system that conserves energy. The facility is home to several local amateur and adult hockey teams, hosting dozens of hockey tournaments every year. The popular Prior Lake ice arena features two NHL-sized rinks.
